Immature (2023) Season 3

In its third season, this TVF teen drama takes center stage with a narrative that revolves around the unrequited love story between Chhaya (Kanika Kapoor) and Dhruv (Omkar Kulkarni).

As they face the challenges of high school life, the story unfolds against the backdrop of their impending departure, depicting the emotional nuances and complexities of unrequited love.

This season highlights the experiences and emotions of these young characters as they prepare to say goodbye to their formative years in high school.

Immature (Season 3) Storyline

Welcome to the school where students are busy in everything other than studies. In this latest season of the show The Viral Fever, the story revolves around Chhaya’s hopeless love for her best friend Dhruv, who remains unaware of her feelings despite several hints.

The characters find themselves entangled in a web of romantic escapades under the “kissing” tree, participating in a week-long celebration before Valentine’s Day, complete with roses, teddy bears, and the exchange of promises.

However, despite efforts to capture the essence of high school life and teen romance, the latest season has lost its creative spark and narrative purpose. Chhaya’s unrequited love, Dhruv’s obliviousness, and his friends’ various romantic entanglements make for a repetitive story that struggles to move forward. By the end of the fifth episode, the show seems to accomplish very little in terms of storytelling, leaving viewers yearning for more meaningful developments.

Although the show successfully evokes nostalgia and takes viewers back to their high school days, it fails to provide seamless entertainment. The poorly scripted “coming-of-age” teen drama seems to have missed its mark, leaving audiences wanting a more engaging and purposeful narrative.

StarCast Performance

This latest season saw Omkar Kulkarni, Chinmay Chandranshu, and Naman Jain reprise their roles as Dhruv, Kabir, and Susu respectively.

Unfortunately, the characters continue to follow their original briefs, steeped in disgusting stereotypes. Dhruv is portrayed as the cool and charming school student who is given license to break hearts. Kabir, on the other hand, is portrayed as an overweight and aggressive young man who tries too hard to be funny, often resorting to bullying before others can embarrass him.

His repeated use of the word ‘sucked’ in almost every sentence becomes his weapon of choice. Susu symbolizes the naive man who struggles to interpret the signs of love and lust from his supposed girlfriend.

Although there is a possibility to explore different shades to his character, the show seems to be ignoring this possibility.

One worrying aspect is that almost every female character is portrayed as either needy, insensitive, or an object to be possessed by the male characters. Although the writing briefly acknowledges this as a problem, the treatment remains as superficial as the show’s overall narrative. The characters seem stuck in stereotypical molds, and the attempt to address gender dynamics lacks depth and real exploration.

Music and Direction of Immature

The dialogues in the third season of Immature are commendable, effectively capturing the language of Gen Z through their lines. While the music, though good, may not be as memorable as that of some other TVF ventures, it still enhances the overall scene effectively. The cinematography is notable, successfully capturing the essence of the drama through well-framed scenes.

In particular, a wide shot at the end effectively symbolizes the distance between Shadow and Pole, which quickly changes to a close-up after their reconciliation.

The editing is well-done, seamlessly integrating with the narrative. Director Anant Singh ‘Bhatu’ does a commendable job, creating heart-touching moments while balancing entertainment in the drama. The theme of immaturity among the characters is handled effectively, and the director deserves credit for it. Overall, the technical aspects contribute positively to the show’s presentation and storytelling.

Why should you watch this web series

One enjoyable aspect of this season is the short duration of all five episodes. If you can tolerate a seemingly pointless campus drama with dull characters and an inflexible narrative, ‘Immature’ might be bearable.

The brevity of the episodes may serve as a relief to those who find the show lacking substance or meaningful character development. The third season of Immature picks up where the previous season left off, primarily focusing on Chhaya as she seeks a relationship with Dhruv, whom she had earlier rejected.

The main question is whether Dhruv will reciprocate her feelings or not. Although the story shows improvements compared to previous seasons, it follows a somewhat familiar trajectory that may not seem entirely new, especially to those who have watched similar teen dramas.

Interestingly, a comparable storyline was also explored in the recently concluded third season of Crushed, which starred Naman Jain in both shows.

Despite the familiarity of the concept, the story lives up to its title, capturing Dhruv’s character traits and providing some laughs and enjoyable moments along the way.

The script, consisting of five episodes of approximately 20 to 30 minutes each, maintains a dense and fast narrative, avoiding overstaying its welcome. The drama comes across as a decent and harmless watch for teen audiences.

The reintroduction of the lead characters sets the stage for Chhaya’s efforts to win over Dhruv, who sees her as nothing more than a friend, especially after her recent breakup with Chhavi, who went abroad to study. The relationship dynamics are presented in a simplistic manner, targeting the teen audience with simplicity rather than nuance.

Yomovies Conclusion

Despite the lack of depth, the drama successfully maintains the lively atmosphere of the high-school setting. Additionally, the inclusion of post-credits scenes introduces a new element, hinting towards a TVF universe crossover.

Described as a harmless high school drama exploring the themes of love and breakups, the third season of Immature is considered a good one-time watch and a significant improvement over the previous season, which was considered disappointing.

The show is available on Amazon Prime, making it accessible for those interested in this teen drama. The positive change in quality compared to previous seasons shows that the creators have ironed out some of the shortcomings, providing viewers with a more enjoyable viewing experience.
